Trainee Artistic Directors – One Year On

October 1, 2018

The Artistic Director Leadership Programme just had its first birthday! One year on, our Trainee Artistic Directors write to the 2017 version of themselves, sharing what they know now, that they wished they knew then.

First up, Anastasia Osei-Kuffour, Trainee Artistic Director at tiata fahodzi.

Dear Anastasia,

Congratulations on becoming a TAD!

Always remember it’s a training programme. Don’t berate yourself for any gaps in your knowledge, just mentally prepare for a process of learning, and you will succeed.

Think of it as a marathon, don’t try and sprint the learning, you just can’t. It takes time and it’s more enjoyable that way. Let go of your baggage of worry and anxiety, let go of wanting to bypass the process – no one jumps straight to excelling.

There will be things you do that may feel like you’re climbing a mountain, just know that it will be worth it when you get to the top.

Know that you will be a blessing to tiata fahodzi just as they are a blessing to you.

Know that the experience will change you for the better and you will acquire great tools to help you lead and push forward the projects that are on your heart.

Relax and enjoy the roller-coaster of the next two years – don’t take things too seriously.

Lots of love,

Anastasia
